Sha'arei Tikva (Hebrew: שַׁעֲרֵי תִּקְוָה, lit. Gates of Hope) is an Israeli settlement and a communal village located at an elevation of 200 metres north-east of Rosh HaAyin and one kilometre east of the Green Line near Elkana in the north-western West Bank. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.[2]
Founded in 1983 through a government decision, the first residents moved to the new village in April 1983. Its current population is about 4,500 people in about 1,200 families. The village is run by a local committee under the umbrella municipal jurisdiction of the Shomron Regional Council. The head of that committee is Gideon Idan.
The residents of Sha'arei Tikva are a mix of religious and non-religious people. The village is a dormitory community with most employed people working elsewhere.
